There’s a cool little lyric from a song I like a lot called “Sailing the Veil-Boat” about going from being led by the “belly” to abiding daily with God. It goes, “Then Savior front door, knock knock open wide / Despite being poor, we’re rich as his Bride / Danger to us, no more dangerous / He fashioned a sail, made out of the veil / And so now I’m his Bride, but then so is my wife / And daily to abide, he keeps us on the ride!” In the Bible, the curtain in the temple (or the ‘veil’) is a symbol of the separation between us and a holy and loving God, and it was torn when Jesus was crucified, paying for our sins and giving us free access to him, all the time. Lately I’ve been meeting with God in hymns–sails made out of the sacrifice, love, and energy of Christian writers throughout the ages. I thought it would be cool to invite others along for the ride!
